[ Home ] [ Up ] [ Cindy ] [ Gretchen ] [ Remembering Len ]
Jean Violet’s social life is a whirlwind! If she’s not ‘on the road’ seeing
more of the world, she’s "meeting the girls"—for bridge or lunch—or socializing with
friends while taking in all the things there are to see and do in downtown Chicago. In addition, she is looking for the comfort and
convenience of a condo and, so, is also fixing up her house to put on the market.
This picture of Len
and Jean was taken at Ann and Dan's wedding reception, October 1, 1999. All of
us remember that he had a good time that night. He danced a little and drank a
little and ate a little and, though he tired easily, enjoyed himself. And he
looked good. That is why it is so hard to believe that, barely five months
later, he is gone.
No one who ever met Len, or spoke
with him, or sang with him, or worked with him, will ever forget him. He was
bright, articulate, patriotic, and gregarious.
March 23, 2000 would have been his
69th birthday. In honor of that day and what it meant to the world, Ron and Jean
and Jerry and all the BrickKickers had a little party of sorts in remembrance of
their founder. And, after a month at half mast, they raised the flag high once
again, the flag that Len loved so dearly, over that little patch of lawn in
front of the BrickKicker building.
During his illness and then his
passing, many moving and wonderful words were spoken for him and about him and
posted on our Web site. One of the pieces was an article Len wrote entitled 'The
King is Dead.' And so he is.
It is no easy thing
dealing with the loss of your spouse. Jean is handling her new title as well as
she can. Her girls, Cindy and Gretchen, have been and continue to be very
solicitous, a difficult job when they, too, are grieving.
Thankfully, Jean is a very busy woman
and has many things that occupy her time and her mind. One of those is teaching:
now, after many years with the Chicago Board of Education, Jean spends some of
her time evaluating student teachers.
Jean also loves to travel. Every year
she visits Florida with her nieces and, in addition, some exotic port of call on
her own. Now that she is alone, she will probably do even more of that. Expect
to receive post cards from all sorts of places.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her
daily.
